Hello,
I have just started out changing to Linux from Windows. Forgive me if I am
sending this message to
the wrong address. If so, please redirect it to someone that can help (no
forums please -- I don't understand
when someone asks me to type a 20-line script on the command line to fix my
problem)

After I installed Ubuntu 8.0.4 I was delighted how well it worked. Most
features are similar
than in Windows. The problem comes when I installed SKYPE that my HP VGA webcam
was not regognized. When I tried to print a test page, my LEXMARK
1420 printer was seen
but I got some error message about CUPS server error about "document format
not supported.
Finally, when I tried to scan a picture with my HP Scanjet 6300c, Xsane
gave my error messages
about CMS conversions and the scanner's ICM profile.

Can you help? I understand that there is a learning curve involved here,
but there must
be more support available than online forums and Google, if I can be
convinced that Linux
is a better alternative to Windows.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I would love to try Linux, but I am
not removing XP until
there is better support. Can you help?

greetings from Mike

PS
after all this I would still like to hear from someone about where I can
find the solutions
to my problem without suggesting to buy a new printer, camera and scanner
