Hello,

I heard http://pciids.sourceforge.net/ would have a new www interface
soon. Sorry if the question has already been asked.

Would it be possible to integrate usb devices ids management in this database ?
It's about the same job and I think the existing list here
http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids isn't managed with automatic tools.

Regards,
Jérôme

Should we be rather thinking of a new model to gather device
information altogether and merge into a one big device information
source, which lists types, drivers, variants, capabilities, quirks of
hardware/devices etc. ?

Please comment.

Maintaining PCI and USB ID's together is a good goal and our web
interface (I promise it will be ready soon) should be able to handle
that fine.

On the other hand, I do not think we should mix driver information and
similar stuff into that. All information about drivers for each device
is contained in the kernel itself. It could however be nice to let
the web interface match the module device tables automatically.

Is there any more information on the new web interface and is there a demo ?

I will ask Michal Vaner, who is developing the interface, to put it
online somewhere.

It is available at http://pci-ids2.ucw.cz/, but please keep in mind that
it still has lots of rough edges.

First of all, nobody has paid attention to the visual form. Everything
is just plain HTML. Help texts are not there yet.

But the overall idea is sound: There is a general tree of ID's (currently
it is populated with PCI vendors+devices and PCI classes only, but it can
be of any general shape). Each item has a history attached to it which
contains suggestions for the contents of the item and also arbitrary
discussion comments. The administrators then choose which item of the
history is currently active and thus exported to the pci.ids file.
All changes are also sent by e-mail to those who have requested it.

Your feedback will be welcome.

Also, the import of the history of the existing PCI ID's is rather
crude so far.
